- The Belem's 2007 sailing season is now coming to its end. A great many short training sessions along France's Atlantic coast and a main feature: an unforgettable month-long all-round tour of Ireland, from July 20th to August 23rd. From Cherbourg to Dublin, then to Galway via Glasgow and the Giants' Causeway, to Cork, the Kerry coast, the Fastnet Rock and back home to France. 175 trainees braved the winds and waves of the Irish seas, the hourly changes typical of the Irish weather, discovered the magnificent coastlines and revelled in the warm, friendly welcome of the Irish people – not to mention their warm, friendly pubs! – when they came ashore. In Dublin, Irish visitors to the Belem appreciated the special exhibition dedicated to Sir Arthur Ernest Guinness, of the Irish brewing dynasty, who owned the ship from 1921 until his death in 1949. All in all, a great success!
