AGE
Trips are open to anybody over the age of 14.
14 and 15 year-olds must be accompanied by a legally responsible adult. There is no maximum age limit. 

PHYSICAL APTITUDE
A medical certificate specifying your capacity to sail on board Belem is compulsory. When you book, the Foundation provides you with a medical form, to be filled in by your doctor.
Life on board a ship entails certain constrictions and risks. It is generally necessary to make sure that your state of health is compatible with sailing conditions. If you have any doubts, the Foundation recommends that you consult your practitioner before booking a trip.

If your doctor refuses to sign your health certificate and if your have already booked a trip, you can cancel it without any penalty up to 30 days (calendar weeks) before boarding. Once this delay is passed, your payment will be reimbursed minus a penalty amounting to 20% of the price of the trip (insurance not included).

SAILING EXPERIENCE
No sailing experience is necessary for taking a trip on board Belem. Because Belem is a training ship, each trip is a discovery of living conditions and manoeuvring a 19th century three master barque, under the supervision of a professional crew.
Trips are open to anyone, beginners, amateurs and experienced sailors.

Once conditions for taking part in a training trip have been ensured, you can book:

After choosing your trip or trips, all you need to do is fill in your form and pay online by secure payment SPPlus – Caisse d'Epargne. You will be kept informed by e-mail at every stage of your booking process.
Warning: please verify the expiry date on your credit card before starting the process. If the card expires before the balance has been settled (this is done automatically 30 days before the start of the trip), it will be rejected. Make sure your credit card is valid for the whole payment process (down payment + balance).

BY POST  Download the booking form,
Fill it in and send it to the Belem foundation together with the down payment for the trip or trips (by cheque or bank transfer).
Bookings cannot be made by telephone.
 
PRICES

At the start of each sailing season, the Foundation draws up the list of sailing trips and their corresponding prices. Trainees must settle the total cost of their trip before embarking on board Belem.
The cost of a trip goes towards the maintenance of the ship and her activities as a training ship open to the public. This package price includes accommodation and meals as well as practice and theory of nautical manoeuvres.

INSURANCE
An “individual accident” guarantee is included in the price of the trip as well as an “assistance and repatriation” guarantee. When you book a trip you will also be subscribing to a cancellation guarantee with a premium amounting to 3,5% of the price of the trip.

 

TRAVELING TO AND FROM THE SHIP
The Foundation does not take charge of any travel to and from the ship's departure and arrival points or of any hotel booking.
